Abstract

Background: Continus evaluation of the prevalent of infectious disease prevalence is one of the important needs for the health and treatment programs in the country. This article aimed to evaluate the latest studies on intestinal parasitic infections in Kermanshah district  and find out trend of such infections in this area during past years and decades.
Methods: Internet search engines (Pubmed, Medline and Ovid), local Persian journal articles, student’s thesis, congress abstracts, researches reports, parasitology textbooks, and non-published data from clinical diagnostic laboratories on intestinal parasitic infections in Kermanshah district were studied. The infestation status and trend of incidence were evaluated.
Results:  According to the latest research reports there are at least ten types of intestinal helminthes and protozoan parasites in the rural and urban areas in Kermanshah district. In general the prevalence rate of intestinal parasites (Helminthes and Protozoan) in this district was 7.6%. Giardia lamblia was the most common intestinal pathogenic protozoan with the prevalence of 6.9%.
