Abstract

Introduction: Internal evaluation is an instrument for the development of educational activities. The implementation of this approach in educational centers provides ­opportunity for identifying strengths and challenges, and encouraging the authorities to resolve problems and provide appropriate solutions to improve the quality of education, research and management. The aim of this study was the internal evaluation of the Emergency Medicine Educational Departments in line with one of the stages of a validation process.
 
Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed in 2014-2015.  The study population included members of internal evaluation committee, faculties, Head of Departments, students, graduates and head of Emergency Medicine Centers in Kermanshah city. Depending on the type of population, samples were selected randomly. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire, interview and informative form. They were analyzed using SPSS-21.
 
Results: The results showed that the mission factor was the best and dissertations and graduates factors were at the lowest level. Medical Emergency Department achieved the average score of 1/82 (73/59 percent) based upon the eight evaluative factors. According to the ranking criteria, the group's internal evaluation was at a relatively favorable level.
Conclusion: Although the results of the internal evaluation of the Medical Emergency Educational Department were at a favorable level, more revision, modifications and implementing the strategies obtained from internal evaluation are necessary for the quality improvement, especially in graduates Factor
