Abstract

Background: Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease that mandates a high cost on nations. The aim of this study was to compare the human brucellosis incidence rates in Eslam Abad-e-Gharb, Kermanshah province and Iran from 2006 to 2010.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the incidence rates of human brucellosis in EslamAbad-e-Gharb town, Kermanshah province and Iranwere obtained from the existing files and compared by Z test.
Results: There were 458 cases of human brucellosis in Eslam Abad-e-Gharb. The incidence rate of this disease (per 100,000) in Eslam Abad-e-Gharb (42-76.4) was higher than those of Kermanshah province (37.4-56.3) and Iran (15.9-34) during the five-year period (P=0.01).
Conclusion: the human brucellosis incidence rate had a descending trend in the three regions investigated. Although the incidence rate of this disease was declining, it was more than twice the national incidence rate in EslamAbad-e-Gharb. This issue needs the immediate attention of health decision-makers in Kermanshah province.
