3.3. Sequencing and Phylogenetic Analysis
The thalassemia strains of this study are showed bold and other strains in italic. The designations and origin of the strains obtained from GeneBank, are given at the nodes. The F84 model of nucleotide substitution was used to estimate genetic distances with a single category of substitution rates and gamma distributed rates across sites with alpha 0.74, empirical base frequencies, and transition/transversion ratios of 5.9 for genotype 1, 2.88 for genotype 2, 3.68 for genotype 3 and 2.0 for genotype 4.
