Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is defined as two or more pregnancy losses before 20 weeks gestation. -TNF-α is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that has been proposed a candidate gene for the pathogenesis of RPL. This study aimed to investigate the association of TNF-α-308G/A polymorphism with RPL among East Azarbaijan population.
The patient group comprised 100 women with the experience of three pregnancy losses and the control group comprised 100 women without any previous history of pregnancy loss. Genotype TNF-α-308G/A was detected using PCR-RFLP assay.
The observed frequencies of GG and GA genotypes of TNF-α-308G/A polymorphism were respectively 84% and 16% in the patient group and 81% and 19% in the control group. AA genotype was not observed in any of the groups.
Our results suggest that the TNF-α-308G/A polymorphism is not associated with RPL in East Azarbaijan women.
