Aim & scope

Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is an international, open-access, peer-reviewed journal and the official publication of the Iranian Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ISRAPM). The journal publishes clinical and applied research that informs the day-to-day practice of anesthesiology and pain medicine, with particular strength in comparative studies of anesthetic and analgesic techniques and agents, and it welcomes basic and translational work that addresses questions arising from that practice.
The journal is written for practising anesthesiologists and pain physicians, residents and trainees in anesthesiology, and the perioperative nursing, pharmacy, and allied clinical teams who share responsibility for anesthetic care and pain management.
The journal welcomes manuscripts in, including but not limited to, the following areas:
1. Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia
- Spinal, epidural, and other neuraxial techniques
- Ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve and fascial plane blocks
- Comparative studies of block approach, technique, and dosing
2. Anesthetic and Analgesic Pharmacology
- Comparative trials of anesthetic, sedative, and analgesic agents
- Adjuvants and multimodal analgesic regimens
- Dose, route, timing, and adverse-effect profiles in clinical use
3. Perioperative Management and Outcomes
- Postoperative pain and analgesia, including patient-controlled analgesia
- Premedication, sedation, recovery, and patient satisfaction
- Postoperative nausea and vomiting, shivering, and other perioperative complications
- Patient positioning and intraoperative monitoring
4. Airway Management, Sedation, and Critical Care
- Tracheal intubation, difficult airway, and rapid sequence induction
- Preoxygenation and apneic oxygenation strategies
- Intraoperative ventilation modes and respiratory management
- Perioperative and intensive care of the critically ill surgical patient
5. Acute and Chronic Pain Medicine
- Acute, chronic, and neuropathic pain
- Interventional pain procedures, including epidural injection, radiofrequency treatment, and intradiscal intervention
- Spinal and musculoskeletal pain
- Cancer-related and palliative pain
- Pain-related function, disability, and quality of life
6. Anesthesia in Specific Populations
- Obstetric anesthesia and analgesia
- Pediatric anesthesia
- Cardiac and thoracic surgical anesthesia
- Anesthesia for patients with significant comorbidity
7. Basic and Translational Research
- Mechanisms of nociception, analgesia, and anesthetic action
- Preclinical and translational studies with a clear route to clinical application
8. Education and Practice in Anesthesiology
- Training, assessment, and educational measurement in anesthesiology
- Safety, quality, and improvement in anesthetic practice
Submissions must be original and must not be under consideration elsewhere. Multiple, duplicate, or redundant publication is not permitted; where a manuscript overlaps with the authors' earlier work, that work must be cited and the overlap declared at submission.
Article types
The following categories outline the types of manuscripts considered for publication and are intended to guide authors in preparing and submitting their work.
1. Original Research
- Randomized controlled trials and other clinical studies
- Observational, cohort, and cross-sectional studies
- Basic and translational studies
2. Review Articles
- Narrative reviews
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
3. Case Reports
- Single cases and short case series with clear clinical implications
- Novel clinical observations
4. Brief Reports
- Concise reports of limited scope
- Preliminary findings warranting early communication
5. Correspondence
- Letters to the editor
- Replies from authors of published articles
6. Editorials
- Normally commissioned by the editorial board
Peer review
Every submission is double-anonymised during review. After the decision, the review history is published as open peer review (since Aug 2019) for reviewers who agreed to be identified; other reviewers remain anonymous. Show List of All Published Reviewers' Comments
