Abstract

Background: The rate of unnecessary medical interference and cesarean section is increasing in our country. Because of its importance, the present study was performed to recognize the effective factors on selecting the delivery method among physicians.

Methods: This study was a qualitative one in which semi- organized interview and interview guidance were used for gathering data from the physician experiences in Kashan City. Data gathering continued to saturation of information. Finally 11 specialists participated in our study. Two first participants were selected through accessible sampling but others were selected purposefully. Data were analyzed employing Cheevakumjon method. After reviewing the content of data, categorization was performed.

Results: The majority of participants believed that the rate of cesarean section higher than expected in our country. Based on their views, there are several factors affecting the selection of delivery method. These factors are categorized in 5 series including: factors related to: 1.Physican 2.Culture of community 3.Delivery or cesarean outcomes 4. Delivery conditions 5. Health and treatment system

Conclusion: Controlling early hospitalization and excessive diagnosis by physicians is very effective in decreasing the cesarean section rate. Besides, designing a long-term program for creating cultural changes among all classes of societies, especially physicians regarding the acceptance of employing vaginal delivery seems to be necessary.
