Viewpoints of faculty members of Semnan University of Medical Sciences about research barriers

  Introduction: Proper understanding and definition of barriers knowledge production is the first and most important step in the effort necessary momentum to accelerate scientific and comprehensive plan goals and visions of the country. The present study has been done to investigate the problems and barriers to scientific research of the faculty members of Semnan University of Medical Sciences (SUMS).   Materials and Methods: This cross sectional study conducted on 88 faculty members in SUMS in 2013. Data collection tools, including demographic information and questionnaire research barriers in Likert scale ranging from very extreme disagreement to extreme agreement scoring from 1 to 5.   Results: The results showed the mean (±SD) in area of preparing research proposals was 1.93±0.26, problems implementing the research steps 2.32±0.35, administrative and management 2.68 ± 0.26 and individual factors was 3.24 ± 0.22. The four domains of the five research areas were significant differences (p0.05).   Conclusion: Faculty members considered individual factors as the most barriers factor in research work. Therefore more attention most is paid to individual and motivational factors of faculty members in order to decrease research challenges and stepping toward the goal for university settings in achieving the highest scientific knowledge production in the region.
