Abstract

Introduction: Internal Evaluation (I.E) is not deniable in goals΄ promotion and improvement of educational department, and its members can dehiscence their department by applying of I.E and determination of the weak & strong points. Accordingly, members of medical surgical nursing department decided to perform I.E in self department from Sep. 2002 to Mar. 2003. Material and methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated criterions such as manager and equipments of department, space of clinical education, students, faculty and lesson plan & teaching programming. The markers of criterions were designed by checklist. Theoric and clinical teaching functions of faculty and space of clinical education were evaluated by questionnaire. The amounts of acquired scores at goals of a lesson and self-evaluation by students about any goal were to assess of plan & teaching programming criteria. The study samples included faculty and students of theoric lectures and nursing internships that carried out their clinical education in the medical, surgical and critical wards. Results: The mean of criterions scores ranked in “Good” class of the Gourman classification with 3.8 points. Although teaching function of faculty was in “High” ranking, but their research function descended in “More than satisfied” ranking. The majority of population of students reported lack of equipment and educational facilities classified in “Weak” ranking. In lesson plan & teaching programming, had been accord between achieved points and students views from learning amount in 45.8 percent of objectives. Conclusion: Although public higher education organization is responsibility of alteration of some criterions such as students, but department members and related faculties can gain better ranking in subsequent evaluations by remove of the barriers, weak points and undesirable markers.
