Editors & Boards

Brieflands is a scientific, technical and medical publisher and is the owner and publisher of this journal. Where an academic organization is affiliated with the journal, that affiliation is scientific only: the organization supports the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board in defining the journal’s scope and upholding its scientific standards. It holds no ownership, financial or commercial interest in the journal, and no funds pass between Brieflands and the organization in either direction.

No member of the editorial team receives a salary, honorarium, fee waiver, discount on author charges, or preferential handling of their own submissions from Brieflands in return for editorial service. Editorial appointments are reviewed annually by the governing board of Brieflands against its criteria for independence and responsibility, and editors are independent of the publisher in their editorial decisions.

Editors are required to declare all relevant competing interests and must not take part in reviewing or deciding on any paper in which they have a competing interest. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the scientific content of all material published in the journal. A competing-interest statement appears beneath each editor, covering activities over the twelve months since the last update; relevant competing interests from earlier years are also taken into account when deciding whether it is appropriate for an editor to handle a paper.

The Executive Manager supports the Editor-in-Chief with the day-to-day running of the journal: manuscript flow, communication with authors, reviewers and editors, and coordination with the publisher. The Executive Manager takes no editorial decisions; the final decision to accept or reject a manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

The Executive Manager receives no payment, honorarium, fee waiver, discount on author charges or preferential handling of their own submissions from Brieflands for this role, and takes no part in handling any manuscript in which they have a competing interest.

Editorial Board members are distinguished researchers working in the fields covered by the journal. They advise the Editor-in-Chief on the journal’s scope and policies, and serve as Academic Editors for manuscript submissions.

All Editorial Board members serve on a voluntary basis and receive no payment, honorarium, fee waiver, discount on author charges, or preferential handling of their own submissions in return for their service.

Manuscripts submitted by Editorial Board members are handled by an independent editor, and the submitting member takes no part in any decision concerning their own work.

Members of the Consultant Committee advise the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board on the journal’s scope, policies and specialist matters within their fields. They do not handle individual manuscripts and take no part in editorial decisions, which rest with the Editor-in-Chief.

Consultants serve on a voluntary basis and receive no payment, honorarium, fee waiver, discount on author charges or preferential handling of their own submissions in return for their service.

The Executive Committee supports the editorial office with the administration of the journal, including manuscript tracking and correspondence. Its members take no part in editorial decisions; the final decision to accept or reject a manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Ownership and affiliation

The journal is owned and published by Brieflands, a publishing company registered in the Netherlands. Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences (AJUMS) is affiliated with the journal in a scientific capacity only: it supports the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board in defining the journal’s scope and upholding its scientific standards. The organization holds no ownership, financial or commercial interest in the journal, and no funds pass between Brieflands and the organization in either direction.

Brieflands is responsible for publishing operations, production, dissemination and the platform. Scientific responsibility for all published content, including special issues and guest-edited material, rests with the Editor-in-Chief. Editorial decisions are determined by scientific merit alone. Editorial independence and remuneration are set out at the top of this page.

Brieflands conducts its activities in accordance with applicable Dutch and European Union law, including export-control and sanctions regulations.

Correspondence

Scientific and editorial matters. Comments on a published article, questions on the journal’s scope or editorial policy, and letters to a named board member: contact the organization above, or the board member directly where an address is listed.

All other matters. Submissions and revisions, article charges and waivers, permissions, corrections and retractions, complaints and appeals, and technical questions are handled by the publisher in the Netherlands. Use the support portal, where each request is recorded and assigned for response.
