Abstract

Background: Job environment is a strong stimulus for creating of emotions and there are several stressful situations which could cause dissatisfaction, low work performance, leave or changing job. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sensations seeking with job stress among emergency medicine workers.

Methods: In this correlational study, 60 emergency medicine workers in border cities of Kermanshah Province were chosen through census. Data were collected using demographic questionnaire and validated questionnaires of job stress and sensation seeking. Finally data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics.

Results: Scores of the thrill seeking, experience seeking, variety seeking , being blue and escaping inhibition were 0/443 ,0/463 ,0/444, 0/710 and 0/701 respectively. There was an indirect relationship between job stress and thrill seeking (r=-0/101, p=0/443), job stress and experience seeking (r=-0/097, p=0/463)) and job stress and variety seeking (r=-0/049, p=0/710). Besides, there was a direct relationship between being blue (r=0/101, p=0/444) and escaping inhibition (r=0/051, p=0/701).

Conclusion: Since there was a significant relationship between sensation seeking and job stress in the studied centers, modifying sensation seeking of the staff will reduce their job stress.
