Evaluation of cephalometric parameters using McNamara and Wits analysis in studetns with normal occlusion
Background: Cephalometric standards for treatment is community-based. Thus, different analyzes are designed for cephalometric assessments. Objective: To determine cephalometric standards and indices using McNamara and Wits analysis in 12-17 year old students with normal occlusion. Methods: A clustered randomized method considering socio-economical and geographical status of Qazvin were used for sampling. Among 4000 students, cephalograms, study casts and orthopantomographs of 64 students with normal occlusion were evaluated using McNamara and Wits analysis. Findings: The results indicated a statistically different mean values of Co to Gn, ANS to Me and maxilo-mandibular differential between boys and girls. Maxillary and mandibular incisors had bilateral protrusion in comparison with data reported from America. Conclusion: For an improved diagnosis and treatment plan regarding Iranians it is recommended to use the standards obtained in this study
