Abstract

Background: Gonorrhea has a cosmopolitan distribution and is spread by sexual intercourse. Objective: To determine the frequency of Gonorrhea and to present the sensitivity pattern of current antibiotics. Methods: In a descriptive research, 160 men with mean age of 32±8.26 referring to Sari Medical Center during 1997 to 1998 were examined by preparing smear and culture of urethral purulent discharge, first stream voided urine, seminal fluid and special media in microbiology labs by standard microbiological diagnostic methods. The sampling was sequential. Disk diffusion method was used to determine the drug sensitivity of spices. Findings: In this study, 85% of unmarried patients and 30% of married in age group of 19-29 were infected with N.gonorrhea. 70% of the subjects had low education (Higher secondary and secondary). The sensitivity to ceftriaxone was 99%. Conclusion: Ceftriaxone is recommended for the treatment of Gonorrhea.
