Abstract

Background: Ergonomy is the study of work laws and anthropometry is the measurement of the dimensions and certain other physical characteristics of the body for the purpose of designing things people use. Objective: To determine anthropometric data of school children in Sistan and Bluchistan province in order to obtain dimensions of tables and chairs suitable to students dimensions. Methods: In a cross-sectional metho relevant to ergonomic principles, 1184 male students (6 to 18 years old) were randomly selected in terms of multi stage simple sampling and their dimensions were measured with sliding calipers, scale and static anthropometer. Findings: the results obtained in this study were compared with dimensions in international standard organization and students with age range of 6 to 18 were divided into four group, then dimensions of tables and chairs appropriate to student dimensions were obtained. Conclusion: The percentiles of anthropometric parameters, percentile suitable for every parameter and dimensions of tables and chairs suitable to student dimensions in terms of ergonomic principles and standards were calculated.
