Incidence of Tuberculosis in cities of Fars
Background: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease which has been taken into serious consideration due to its cosmopolitan recur. Objective: To determine the incidence rate of all forms of tuberculosis and sputum-positive pulmonary TB in cities of Fars province. Methods: A register of all cases of TB in university affiliated hospitals and laboratories of 1 Fars province was compiled from 1991 to 1994. Findings: The average annual TB (All forms) incidence rate in local residents, Iranian citizens and Afghan refugees were 8.20, 7.36 and 28.66 per 100000 respectively. Corresponding rates for sputum-positive pulmonary TB were 3.57, 3.08 and 14 per 100000 respectively. Conclusion: The average annual incidence rate of sputum positive pulmonary TB in Fars province is 3.57 per 100000 which is 46%, higher than the rate reported by National TB control program (2.44).
