Abstract

Abstract Background: Silicone oil is a proper substitute for Erystalline lens in complex surgeries of retina. Silicone oil with different viscosity has the same tamponade power however, a suitable amount of viscosity is still in argument. Objective: To evaluate the outcome of retinal detachment surgery after silicone oil (5000cs vs 1000cs) removal. Methods: Out of 82 operated eyes which underwent silicone oil removal, in shahid Labbafinezhad hospital during 1986 to 1996, silicone oil 5000cs was used in 53 eyes and silicone oil 1000cs in 29 eyes. Final visual acuity and intraocular pressure was considered as the outcomes of the study. Findings: Before silicone oil removal, 29% of the eyes had VA>6.120 and 52% had IOP>21 mmHg.
