Abstract
Background:Donors routinely undergo preoperative conventional arteriography to evaluate the kidney especially renal arteries before nephrectomy. Objective:To assess the variation of renal arteries in donors by conventional angiography. Methods:50 donors underwent conventional renal angiography so the researchers could evaluate number , diameter and also origin of renal arteries. Findings:The majority of the right and left renal arteries originated at the first lumbar vertebral level. 18% of cases had at least one accessory renal artery (5% cases in right side and 13% cases in left side). There was statistically significant difference in distribution of right and left accessory renal arteries but there was no difference between two sexes (P < 0.05).Also, the diameter of left renal arteries were larger than the right ones. Conclusion:These results suggest a low rate of accessory renal artery and also a higher level of originating from aorta in studied subjects.
