Abstract

Background:

Using chemical drugs have often masses of damaged side effects Therefore,it is important to research about medicinal plants with anti-inflammation and fewer side effects.malvasylvestris has potential use as a medicinal plant. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Malva Sylvestris flowers hydroalcoholic extract on the carrageennan-induced inflammatory response using Wistar male rats' paws

Material and methods:

Malva Sylvestris flowers powder wasmacerated with 70%ethanol, and its extract prepared. Male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups of 10 animals each for following treatments: Malva extract (200,400,600 and 800 mg/kg), normal saline (5mg/kg) as negative control and Aspirin (300mg/kg) as a positive via IP.Thirty min later inflammation was induced by injection of 100lcarrageenan (1%W/V) into the rat's hind paw of rats(SC). The inflamation response changes were inspected over 5 hours every hour, using plethysmometer.

Results:

The extract-treated (600,800 mg/kg) showed considerable reduction in the rats' paws inflamation when compared with control groop(p>0.05). But 200 and 400 mg/kg extract showed no considerable decrease in inflamation when comparied with control group (p<0.05). There was not significant differences between doses of 600 and 800 mg/kg of extract, therfore dose of 600 mg/kg was selected as the most favorable dose as anti-inflamation.
