Abstract

Background: Personality disorders can play an important role in suicidal ideation and positive and negative emotion of students. The present study investigated the relationship between personality disorders with suicidal ideation and positive and negative emotion of students.
Methods: This study is a correlational one in which 498 students of Islamic Azad University of Kermanshah were selected using clustered sample. Data were gathered, using the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory, Suicidal ideation and Positive and Negative Emotion scales. Then they were analyzed using Pierson correlation and multivariate regression.
Results: The prevalence of personality disorders among students was 15.1% and among females and males students were 12.9% and 17.6% respectively. There was a meaningful correlation between A, B and C (except compulsive) clusters of personality disorders and suicidal ideation and A, B (except narcissistic) and C (except compulsive) clusters of personality disorders and positive and negative emotion of students. Based on the results of multivariate regression, personality disorders have explained 12%, 4% and 12% of the variance of suicide ideation, positive emotion and negative emotion respectively (p<0.01).
Conclusion: Results supported the prevalence of personality disorders and the relationship between these disorders and suicidal ideation and positive and negative emotion of students. Based on the obtained results, attention to personality disorders and their treatment may have an important role in improving the health student’s health.
