Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: : This descriptive study was done to determine the Anthropometric measures of women of reproductive age in Mashhad during the years 1376-1377.
Materials and Methods: 2000 women aged 15-49 years, were recruited from housewives, employees, and students. Weight, height, circumference of mid upper arm, calf and wrist, and triceps skin fold were measured.
Results: Mean ± SD values are : weight:58.2± 23.9 kg , height:156.5± 6.1 cm , body mass index:23.6± 4.4kg/m2 , ideal weight:103.5 ± 15.9%, mid upper arm circumference:26.6 ± 9.3 cm, calf circumference:33.7± 3.42 cm, triceps skin fold 16 ± 6.4mm. Highest mean height and lowest mean weight were seen in 15-19 and 20-24 years groups, respectively. Highest mean weight and lowest mean height were seen in 40-45 years group.
Discussion and Conclusions: Low anthropometric measures are indicative of poor nutrition among the 2 extremes of reproductive age groups. We suggest that national reference values for anthropometric measures be determined.
