Abstract

Introduction: One of the methods for measuring teaching effectiveness in higher education is the rate of students and faculty members. Students are the main source of teaching information quality and effectiveness. The purpose of this study was to examine the factors related to the effective teaching to provide recommendations for its improvement. Research evidence related to student ratings and teaching effectiveness is reviewed. A teaching effectiveness instrument was developed to determine criterions. Material and Methods: A 28-item questionnaire was administered to 428 nursing students in nursing programs in 6 universities and colleges and factor analysis was performed to determine cluster of teaching effectiveness items. Results: The results indicated that four factors of teaching effectiveness were identified: (1) presentation of subject, (2) organizing, (3) evaluation, and (4) professional ability. Conclusion: In this article some recommendations such as equal consideration for education and research, faculty members training sabbatical leaves, publishing of educational journals and strengthening post-graduate studies are presented.
