Quality of life in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Introduction: Assessing the quality of life of patients with chronic complications of diabetes and blood pressure leads to planning and measures to prevent or control complications and improve the quality of life of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of patients with hypertension and diabetes types Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 150 subjects of 100 patients (50 type 2 diabetes and 50 hypertension) and 50 healthy individuals from attending patients (lack of diabetes, hypertension and other chronic diseases according to a clinical expert) who had been referred to the clinic at Kosar Hospital (Semnan, Iran) during the first six months of 2017. The data collection tool was a personal characteristics and disease list and a quality of life questionnaire (SF-36). Results: There were no significant differences in age group, marital status, education and place of residence. The groups were significantly different in terms of overall quality of life score (p=0.013) and in physical dimensions (p=0.001) and psychological symptoms (p=0.013). So that the overall quality of life score of diabetic patients was less likely to have hypertensive patients (p=0.009).
