Abstract

Background: It has been reported that people with multiple sclerosis (MS) suffer from cognitive impairments. This study was designed in order to compare cognitive function of individuals with and without MS.
Materials and Method: The sample consisted of 114 participants (57 normal individuals and 57 MS patients). We used Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) and 2 subscales of WAIS (Vocabulary and Digit span Subscales) for assessing the cognitive function of subjects.
Results: The result of the current study showed significant differences in MMSE, digit span and vocabulary between the MS and normal individuals.
Conclusion: Clinical attention to the treatment of cognitive impairment seems to be a necessity and may contribute enhancing quality of life in MS patients. [ZJRMS, 2012 14(2): 45-48]
