Abstract
previous studies the most frequent sites of involvement have been reported lymph nodes, pleura,
urogenital tract, skeletal system, meanings and peritoneum, respectively.
Methods and Materials: A descriptive study was performed on 81 patients with pathology report
of extra pulmonary tuberculosis, admitted to Loghman- Hakim hospital, from 1375 to 1380. 48 %
(30) were male.
Results: The mean age was 35±19.4 years. The mean age of male patients was 37.5±21.2 years
and that of female patients was 31.1±16.83 years. 82.8% (67) were Iranian and 17.2 % (14) were
Afghan. In this study; 29 cases (35.8%) had tuberculosis lymphadenitis, 14 cases (17.2%) had
tuberculous peritonitis, 12 cases (14.8%) had Skeletal tuberculosis, 6 cases (7.4%) had hepatic
tuberculosis, 5 cases (6.1%)had Pleural tuberculosis, 4cases (4.9%) had cutaneous tuberculosis, 4
cases (4.9%) had tuberculosis synovitis, 2 cases (2.46%) Omentum tuberculosis, one case (1.2%)
had tuberculosis parotitis, one case (1.2%) had chest wall tuberculosis, one case (1.2%)
tuberculosis meningitis, one case (1.2%) had ovary tuberculosis, and one case (1.2%) had uterus
tuberculosis.
Conclusions: Considering the long course of the illness before admission and because of different
primary diagnoses made on patients with extra pulmonary tuberculosis, this disease must be
considered in differential diagnosis of every patient.
