Prevalence of ideal occlusion and dental malocclusion in 12-13 years old students in Zahedan

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of ideal occlusion and other dental
malocclusion based on Angle Classification in the 12-13 years old students in Zahedan-Iran in
2001. Because in this ages permanent dentition is completed. The data were derived from clinical
examination of 630 samples (315 females, 315 meals), which selected randomly. Clinical
examination was performed in natural light by dental mirror. We had a questionnaire for each
sample. The results showed:
Ideal occlusion 7.9% (50 samples), Class. I malocclusion 76.9% (484 samples), Class. II
Division.1 12.7% (80 samples), Class. I Division.2 12.7% (80 samples), pseudo CL.III 0.5% (3
samples), CL.III 0.6% (4 samples). The results showed there were no significant difference between
males and females. The most prevalence was related to CL.I malocclusion and the least prevalence
was related to CL.III.
