Our Vision and Mission
At Brieflands, our mission is to foster a culture of knowledge sharing and to support the academic community by providing easy access to high-quality scholarly resources. We strive to be at the forefront of digital publishing, continuously adapting to the evolving needs of the academic world.
Deposit terms for research data
- Persistent identifiers. Deposited items receive a persistent identifier and a stable URL, so a Data Availability Statement can cite the deposit rather than describe it.
- Retention. Data and supplementary materials deposited in the Brieflands Repository are retained indefinitely, for as long as the associated article remains part of the published record, under the same preservation arrangements as the article itself. See Permanence of Articles and Archiving and Digital Preservation.
- Licensing. Depositors choose the licence for their data. Brieflands recommends CC BY for data that may be shared openly, and the repository records the licence with the item.
- Withdrawal. A deposited item is not deleted once a published article cites it. Where a legal or ethical requirement makes withdrawal necessary, the item is withdrawn and a tombstone record explaining the withdrawal remains at its identifier, so the citation does not break.
- Restricted data. The repository is not a controlled-access facility. Data that cannot be released openly should not be deposited here — state the restriction and the access route in your Data Availability Statement instead.
