Funding or Support

  • Detailed information regarding all financial and material support for the research and work.
  • It must not be limited to grant support, funding sources, and provision of equipment and supplies.
  • A link to the grant number provided by the authors is always required.

    How to name a funder

Give each funder its full official name, not an acronym, exactly as it appears in the Crossref Funder Registry, followed by the grant or award number. Brieflands deposits this funding data with Crossref, so a name that matches the registry lets funders and institutions find the article automatically; a non-standard name breaks that link.

Where you wish to identify the funding organisation or your own institution unambiguously, add its ROR identifier (Research Organization Registry) alongside the name.

Format: Full funder name as in the Crossref Funder Registry [ROR identifier, if available], grant number, and the name of the author who received it.

If the work received no funding

A funding statement is required in every case. Where the research received no external support, state that explicitly:

Funding/Support: This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial or not-for-profit sectors.

Do not leave the section blank and do not write “none” alone — an empty funding field cannot be distinguished from an omission.
