Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine serum levels of Procalcitonin (PCT) in patients with Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) for rapid differential diagnosis of
sepsis from other causes SIRS. In this study 58 patients afflicted by SIRS were evaluated witch all of patients had positive blood culture had serum levels PCT >10 ng/ml and we observed significant different between positive and negative blood culture patients (P<0.01). The results of this study showed serum levels of PCT had a high sensitivity for differential diagnosis of SIRS due to sepsis.
