A four year follow-up of IUD users in Qazvin
Background: IUD is a sure method of contraception which is not commonly used in Iran. Objective: To determine the incidence rate of IUD expulsion and its side-effects during the four years of use amoung women in Qazvin. Methods: 1056 IUD users were followed up for four years. The data were collected and analyzed by survival analysis. Findings: According to the finding, the mean age of the subjects was 25.7×5.78. It was found that the probablity of expulsion is 4.97 per 100 person-year, accumulated incidence rate 11.1%, failure rate 39 per 100 person-year, and the average of life span is about 13-18 months. Conclusion: Expulsion is highest in the first year of use. If cases are carefully chosen for implantation, the effective life of the device will increase.
