Abstract

Abstract Background: Determination of blood pressure is very important in children since hypertension is one of the factors which can cause disability. Objective: To determine the blood pressure and number of pulses of 7 to 12 year old school – children in Qazvin. Methods: By a threestage sampling method, the blood pressure and number of pulses of 5917 school boys and girls of Qazvin with the age range of 7 to 12 were measured .The method of measuring and the used equiments were standard. Findings: The findings indicated a high corrolation between age and the level of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in both sexes. The average of pulses decreased or did not change with increase of age .The prevalence rate of hypertension was 6.9% . The average rate of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in both sexes and all ages were meaningfully more than the standard rate. Conclusion: According to the existing differences between the normal blood pressures in the region and the standard diagram, regional diagrams are recommended for evaluation of blood pressure.
