Abstract

Abstract The importance of Over the Counter (OTC) drugs and their massive and irrational usage are obvious concerns in countries all over the world. The more the patients understanding about the medicine they use the more the properly use of it will be achieved and hence, leading to better therapeutic effects. This descriptive study was carried out on 70 pharmacists in 2006 to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and practice of pharmacists working in Qazvin about the OTC drugs. Two questionnaires were used. The validity of questionnaires was confirmed by most scientists in the field of clinical pharmacy. The behavior of the pharmacists was evaluated using an observational method. Out of 70 pharmacists, 36 were males and 34 females with a mean age of 33±4 years. According to our findings, it was found that the knowledge and attitude of pharmacists on OTC medications is not satisfactory. This could be a rationale for their poor performance regarding the OTC medication.
