Abstract

Background:

Emotional intelligence is a psychological concept that plays a key role in an effective and efficient communication with the environment. The aim of this research was to assess the relationship between emotional intelligence and general health among midwifery students of Ahvaz Jundishapur University.

Material and methods:

The sample consisted of 120 midwifery students of Jundishapur University that were selected by random sampling; it lasted from Oct. to Dec. 2006. They answered two questionnaires including Schutt emotional intelligence inventory and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ). Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics and multivariate regression and by SPSS 16.0 software.

Results:

The Results showed that the emotional intelligence and general the health have significant correlation. Also depression and social interaction dysfunction have the highest variances with emotional intelligence.
