Cardiac hydatid cyst is an exceptionally rare condition in both developed and developing countries. Here, we present a case of a massive, asymptomatic myocardial hydatid cyst in a middle-aged man.
A 51-year-old man presented to the Emergency Department (ED) with complaints of exertional dyspnea and recurrent palpitations. He reported experiencing atypical chest pain. Echocardiography revealed a large mass in the posterolateral portion of the left ventricular wall and a giant mass in the basal portion of the posterior left ventricular wall. A CT scan confirmed the presence of massive cysts, measuring approximately 7.50 × 5.19 cm. The patient underwent cardiac surgery for the excision of multiple cysts of varying sizes, with no involvement of other organs.
Early diagnosis followed by precise surgical intervention is essential for cardiac hydatid cysts, even in asymptomatic cases. This approach can help prevent potential life-threatening complications in patients.
