Full Word File without Title Page

Last updated 2 April, 2026 | 20:08

This file must contain every part of the manuscript, supplied as a Microsoft Word .docx file in normal style, with single line spacing and 14 pt type (read more Microsoft Word .docx):

What the file must contain

Include every part below in one Word file, in this order.

Upload figure(s) as separate files.

Do not include a title page

Please do NOT include a title page in this file. This file is sent to the reviewers, who must not be able to identify the authors.

Anonymising your file

Reviewers receive this file as you upload it. Before uploading, remove anything that identifies the authors; identifying material belongs on the title page instead.

  • Clear the document properties, so that the author, last-saved-by and company fields are empty. In Word, use File → Info → Inspect Document.
  • Write about your own earlier work in the third person. Avoid phrasing such as “as we showed previously”; cite the work normally instead of signalling that it is yours.
  • Move funding statements, grant numbers and acknowledgements to the title page. Do not include them here.
  • Remove institutional names and any other detail that would identify the centre where the work was done, unless the journal has asked for it in this file.
  • Check figures, tables, captions and embedded file names for author names, patient identifiers or institutional logos.

Manuscript templates

Start from the template for your article type. Word count, reference, figure and table limits are set in the Word Count and Limits Policy, which is the single authoritative source.
