Why does Brieflands charge an Article Acceptance Fee?

Brieflands publishes all its journals in full open access format, which means that all content is freely accessible to the scientific community and the general public as soon as it is published online. Unlike traditional academic publishers, Brieflands does not generate income from selling subscriptions or charging pay-per-view fees for access to its journals. To cover the editorial and production costs associated with publishing open access content, Brieflands collects article acceptance fees (APCs) from the authors' institutes or research funding bodies. These fees help defray the expenses involved in the peer-review process, manuscript editing, formatting, hosting, and maintaining the online platform.

Brieflands is committed to keeping its open access publication charges at a minimum level. In fact, the APCs charged by Brieflands, when calculated per page, are significantly lower than the revenues per published page generated by traditional subscription-based academic publishers. By adopting the open access publication model and collecting article acceptance fees, Brieflands aims to foster the dissemination of research findings and promote global access to scholarly information without barriers.

Word Count Policy in Brieflands

In Brieflands, the acceptance fee for an article is determined by its word count. Consequently, we provide varying prices based on the number of words in an article. For detailed information regarding Brieflands' Word Count Policy, please refer to this page.


Pricing in Brieflands Journals

Below is a table that provides the article acceptance fees for different journals. The basic article acceptance fees encompass editorial services and article production. We encourage non-native English-speaking colleagues to utilize a professional English editing service prior to manuscript submission. Important Notes:

  2. VAT Rates: All prices mentioned are inclusive of VAT rates.
  3. Bank Transfer Costs: The prices mentioned do not include bank transfer costs. For non-EU countries, each transaction incurs a cost of 5 Euro plus country-specific charges, while for EU countries, the cost is 0.5 Euro plus 9 Euro for bank transfer and country-specific charges (minimum 10 Euro, maximum 50 Euro).   4. English Editing Services and Costs: The prices provided already include English editing costs. If you have already had your manuscript edited by one of the listed companies, a reduction of 0.03-0.05 euro per word (based on the level of editing) will be applied to your final invoice. To avail of this deduction, please contact us at our support center and provide us with the certificate of English editing.
  5. Special Discounts for Low-Income Countries: To apply for special discounts for authors from low-income countries, please submit a ticket to our customer support portal. 
     

How can I avoid the English editing surcharge?

To avoid the English editing surcharge, non-native English-speaking authors are encouraged to have their manuscripts edited by a professional English editing service prior to submitting them to Brieflands journals. We recommend the following manuscript editing services, which will provide a certificate confirming that their services were utilized to enhance the language and style of the manuscript. The certificate should be submitted along with the manuscript. As a benefit, authors submitting articles to Brieflands journals are eligible for a one-time 10% discount on Brieflands fees or a 15% discount on Manuscript edit's fees. Which article types are published free of charge?

Editorial items, including Editorials or Retractions, are published free of charge in Brieflands. However, article acceptance fees are applicable to other types of articles. Methods of Payments

There are two methods to pay article acceptance fees:

Online Payments (recommended):

To complete the payment of fees, please sign in to the journal website and navigate to the Authorial Area. Under your manuscript, you will find a step-by-step wizard that will guide you through the payment process. Please note that authors are generally allowed to pay the invoice only after the article has been accepted. Once your article is accepted, a button titled "Pay Acceptance Fee" will be accessible to the corresponding author through the journal website.

  • Offline Payments:

Bank payments can be made using the IBAN and BIC numbers of our company. If you prefer to pay via bank transfer, you will need to obtain a pre-invoice. To request the pre-invoice, please submit a ticket via https://brieflands.com/brieflands/forms/support.html (Request Invoice). Our Accounting Department will then send the invoice to your email. Once you receive the invoice, you can proceed to make the payment using your bank account.

After transferring the fee, please ensure to send us the "Bank Receipt" via your journal account. This will help us process your payment and keep track of the transaction. Discounts and Waivers Policy

  • For Authors

Brieflands offers waivers and discounts for article acceptance fees for articles whose corresponding authors are based in low-income countries. These countries are classified by the World Bank as low-income economics as of July 2017.   • For Reviewers

We offer a discount to reviewers of some journals to appreciate their kind efforts and services or to the previous authors to thank them for their loyalty. Reviewers with more than 10 complete tasks are eligible to use our offers and discounts. Do I have to pay if my manuscript is rejected?

No, you are not required to pay any article acceptance fees if your manuscript is rejected. Brieflands will only send an invoice for article acceptance fees once a manuscript has been accepted for publication. The acceptance of a manuscript is determined through the peer-review process, and the final decision on whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected is made by an external editor, typically the Editor-in-Chief of a journal or the Guest Editor of a special issue, based on scientific merit.


Are reprints of my article included in the article acceptance fees?

No, the article acceptance fees do not cover the provision of reprints for the authors. Reprints of published articles can be requested separately and are optional for any article published in a Brieflands journal. To inquire about obtaining reprints for a specific article, please visit the website of the article you wish to reprint and follow the "Order Reprint" link. Cancellation or Refund Policy

If your manuscript is not accepted, we offer the possibility of refunding a portion of your payment. To request a refund, please submit your request through our support portal at https://brieflands.com/brieflands/forms/support.html. Please note that specific conditions apply based on the status of your manuscript:

  1. After Submission and during the In Review Process: If you wish to withdraw your manuscript after it has been submitted and is still in the review process, a withdrawal fee is applicable as per our withdrawal regulations. For more information, please refer to the following link.
  2. After Acceptance and before Final Publishing: Refunds are not possible during this stage.
  3. After Final Publishing in one of the issues: Refunds are not possible once the article has been published in one of the issues.
