Introduction

One of the liver's critical functions is storing, metabolizing, and utilizing fats for the body's nutritional needs. A healthy liver contains approximately 5 grams of pure fat per 100 grams of its weight. When the fat content of the liver exceeds 5% of its weight, the condition is called "fatty liver."

Fatty liver has become a common condition in society, often resulting from various diseases or poor nutritional habits. Accumulation of fat in liver cells can lead to inflammation. Factors such as certain medications, obesity, physical inactivity, and alcohol consumption can contribute to fatty liver disease. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is increasingly prevalent due to lifestyle changes, lack of physical activity, and unhealthy eating habits.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is often silent and asymptomatic in its early stages. However, its presence indicates metabolic dysfunction in the body, significantly increasing the future risks of diabetes, heart disease, and strokes. Raising awareness of fatty liver disease, its causes, and its risk factors can play a vital role in reducing its prevalence and ensuring timely treatment.
