Rights and Support for Patients with Transmissible Infectious Diseases: Focus on Hepatitis B & C (English Edition)
People living with hepatitis B and C face discrimination at work, in education, and sometimes at home — alongside the disease itself. This English edition examines the scientific, legal, social and psychological dimensions of that neglected problem, and what can be done about it.

Rights and Support for Patients with Transmissible Infectious Diseases: Focus on Hepatitis B & C
People living with hepatitis B and C carry more than a diagnosis. They face discrimination, public ignorance, and in many cases the loss of basic rights — at work, in education, sometimes within their own families. This book treats that as the medical, legal and social problem it is.

About this book
Transmissible infectious diseases are among the serious public health challenges of the present day. They threaten physical health, but they also carry deep psychological, social and economic consequences. Hepatitis B and C occupy a particular place in that picture — widespread, transmitted by several routes, and capable of severe complications, which is why they demand attention at scientific, legal and social levels alike.
Beyond the medical and therapeutic questions lies a dimension that is often overlooked: the human and social rights of patients. People with hepatitis B and C frequently encounter discrimination and public ignorance on top of the illness. In many cases they are denied access to proper treatment, and meet obstacles in workplaces, in educational settings, and even within their families.
This book is a response to that need. It takes a comprehensive approach — scientific, legal, social and psychological — with the aim of raising public awareness and improving the legal and social standing of these patients. Its purpose goes past supplying medical information: it is an attempt to create a fairer and more humane environment for people who are too often marginalised by society's silence or neglect.
By offering practical solutions and stressing the importance of legal and social support, it argues for a culture of support and for advocacy on behalf of patients' human and legal rights. It is written to be useful to policymakers, legal professionals, healthcare providers, and general readers alike.
Let us take a step together towards building a more informed, compassionate, and just society for all, especially for patients with hepatitis B and C.Prof. Seyed-Moayed Alavian and Dr. Seyede Hoda Alavian — from the introduction

Note. This book discusses rights and social support and is not a substitute for legal or medical advice. Patient rights, employment protections, and disclosure obligations vary considerably between countries, so readers should seek advice from a qualified lawyer in their own jurisdiction. Hepatitis B and C are treatable conditions; anyone affected should be under the care of a hepatologist or infectious disease specialist.
